ESXi 4.1 Enabling Troubleshooting Mode Option (TSM)
I really have no idea whether this is exactly what you got on previous ESXi 3.5 & 4.0 (4.1 my first ESXi). But what I can confirm is, in order to get into vSphere Hypervisor 4.1 console, you won’t need to type “unsupported” command anymore. Just enough by pressing “Alt-F1″ button and you suppose will get the virtual console window for your hypervisor host. But of course, you must enable TSM first (perhaps SSH too) from your Direct Console User Interface (DCUI) as explained in this VMware KB.

The configuration should similar to the previous ESX/i (4.0) but I don’t know why some of us having touble to configure it. Never mind, check this out.
Notes:
- By default, nfsclient module will be loaded automatically when the system boot up,
- By default ESXi already have VM Kernel for ESXi management and you can use this VM Kernel for your IP Storage connection (iSCSI & NFS) too.
- Make sure you get vmkping result from target NFS server before yo mount any NFS storage. Read more No comments

Lazy to explain on how to do this. However, you can just refer to the pics as per attached below(from left to right). This is very straight forward installation and the only downside is, although you already have vSPhere client 4.1 installed, you still need vSphere client 4.0 in order to manage ESX 4.0. Otherwise, you will get this message :
No commentsEverything went so fast today
I don’t know why today everything went so fast. Had a breakfast this morning & discussion with my colleague till 10:00am. Then proceed with internal discussion with my PM for new VMware project that we just won till 11:00am. Burned DVD image for ESXi Hypervisor, monitor my juniors handling 911 cases, calculate project mandays, burned DVD and VIM installer for ESX upgrade, then go smoke till 1:00pm. After lunch, I forgot what I’ve done till 4:00pm except for some posts that I replied in VMware communities. Ah yes, I’ve had LDE session with my boss, second boss and my colleague till 5:30pm. 6:00pm-8:00pm we had monthly staff meeting then continue with our office July birthday celebration and finally, I’m home(10:00pm). Weird, I didn’t work on any document today opposite to what I normally did for the past few weeks. BTW, Nick you owe me Solution Design for …. and I’m still waiting.
No commentsSunday Morning - ESX Upgrade
Woke up early this morning and already have some plan for tomorrow activity at my office. Yeh, the plan is to upgrade one of our office ESX 4.0 U1(IBM System x3650) to ESX 4.1 (260247). Although I normally will wait till one month at least after the product has been released, but this is not the case for vSphere 4.1. Now in the process downloading the installer from VMware download site.

I’ll start gathering all information needed for the upgrade process and I may post it here later. Hmm as per VMware HCL, IBM x3650 not supported for ESX 4.1. Nevermind, I’ll test it out.
