What is noguix Linux?
Noguix linux is another light linux distro which is based-on SLAX OS. At the beginning, it’s was created & designed just to replace my first home server (DSL) as file, web, & ftp server. After did some modification & replacement on kernel config, features / services, I release noguix Home Server Edition. Though noguix based-on SLAX, all the features inside noguix were designed closely based-on SLES10 and this is because most of the time my jobs require me to work with this OS. The only advantage of noguix, it’s can be run with minimum resources at 64MB RAM + 200Mhz processor speed just to run monkey web server, postfix, & dhcp server. You can either run noguix from live-cd or from the hard disk installation. For the sake of noguix performance, I tried to minimize as much as possible GUI usage on this distro and I hope this will answered to the question “why xfce, why not KDE or gnome?”

As for my current home web server hardware specification celeron 1.8Ghz, 768MB memory, 512MB swap it’s enough to serve for below services:
- Apache2, mysql, sendmail relay, popa3d, imapd, ssh, webmin, samba, ftp, vpn, torrent flux, squid
- vmware server - guest OS —> SLES10 –> scalix mail server with postgres database & tomcat!

This is the most stable home server I ever have till now with minimum down time.

Special Thanks goes to SLAX developer Thomas!
